Hey guys! I’m 21 and thankfully I don’t have gynecomastia (thought I did at one point but was ruled out) fortunately/unfortunately when I’d gained weight I’d gained a lot in my chest however its hereditary – when my dad started getting a gut the manboobs also started, as with me. I still lift weights however lacked cardio/strict nutrition and hated my body was just too lazy to do anything about it. Would always wear button up shirts with a tight singlet to try hold my gut/manboobs in the thought of trying a compression vest and went with the Design Veronique Vest.
My name is Mariko DiBiase and I am the Product Specialist for Design Veronique. I started working for Design Veronique in 1998, right before the Aesthetic surgery boom. After 10 years of experience helping customers select the right products for postsurgical recovery, and using the products for my own recovery, I have a wealth of information to share. So, each week I’ll select a question I receive from one of my customers and post both the question (anonymously) and my response in this blog. I truly love helping patients find the right product to assist in their recovery. I hope you enjoy my blog and find the information helpful and fun! HAPPY HEALING
Patient to Patient
Thank you again for all your wonderful help and personal attention this past Monday on helping me fit a post surgical support garment. I LOVE wearing my compression garment. The thing I noticed immediately was the support it gave me when I laughed, coughed or sneezed. While these things hurt before wearing the garment, they were only mildly uncomfortable with the garment on. I also love the hook/eye connector in the crotch. This makes using the bathroom so much easier and less painful as I did not have to pull the garment up and down over my scars. You’re right about not being able to rip the garment. It wears like iron but is so comfortable.
I WISH I’d had a support garment from Design Veronique after having my children. I suspect my recovery would have been much quicker and my doctor is so pleased with how I am recovering from this surgery. I think these compression garments actually help the healing process!
Some of the common alterations include: tapering of the legs or sleeves, closing the crotch, lengthening or shortening coverage on the leg, lengthening or shortening the bodice (torso coverage), and adding or removing inner panels.

I deeply appreciate all you have done to expedite shipping as I was so miserable in that ill-fitting garment. I am still a little out of it because of the liposuction and pain meds, but the new garment you recommended for me has made a world of difference.
Thank you again for your help.
You’re the best!
I had liposuction two months ago. I have been wearing a Veronique garment that zips up the sides and has bra straps. I like the garment and I am very comfortable. In fact, I am so comfortable that I don’t even want to take it off. My doctor said I can stop wearing the garment after 6 weeks. It has been over 8 weeks and I don’t feel like I can live without the garment.
Help! I feel like I am addicted to my garment!
You are definitely not alone. Many patients say the garment acts like a security blanket and can be difficult to give up. It’s very much a love/hate relationship that many patients experience. They love the fact that the doctor has released them from the garment after 6 weeks of non-stop wear, yet they hate the way they feel without it. (more…)
I just had some abdominal surgery. My surgeon recommend that I should be in a high waisted, long legged, and zippered garment.
I did some research into wearing this type of garment and I had heard that you can become comfortable with the support to the point where you will not want to be without being in a garment daily, can that happen?
That’s an excellent question. The garment provides a great sense of security and feeling of held-togetherness, so yes it can be uncomfortable to go without the garment during the first couple months post-op. However, that feeling fades as you heal, and you should feel totally secure without a garment as you fully recover from your surgery. (more…)
Everything came out great! Thank you so much for all your help with sizing, alterations, and with getting my original order returned. Well it is 9 more days till my operation. Yikes!
You have done such a wonderful customer service job! I will spread the work about Design Veronique garments.
I’ve lost more than a hundred pounds. Currently, I weigh 180 lbs and I am aiming to weigh about 170 lbs. Although, I’ve been seriously contemplating surgery to remove the excess skin from my body, I am interested in buying one of your garments to help me fit into my clothes better and help me in my physical activities which include weightlifting, martial arts, and running.
There are two areas that I’m hoping to support with a garment. The first is my chest as my nipples and surrounding skin are probably 3 inches lower than they should be. And the second area is my abdomen, which due to my loose skin, hangs down to the top of my pelvic bone, which gives that sagging low-belly look. (more…)
I had gastric bypass surgery and lost 165 pounds. Consequently, I needed a tummy tuck, breast lift, and arm lift. I’ve already had the tummy tuck. In two weeks I’m having the arm and breast lift.
When I asked my doctor about wearing a compression garment, he said to buy an athletic bra and that he will wrap my arms in ace bandages. I will have to wear the ace bandages for two weeks, but then he says I can wear a tight pair of gym socks on my arms.
Gym socks? Ace bandages? Do you have any suggestions for me?
Congratulations on your weight loss!
Ace bandages are routinely used after an arm lift, but they can be difficult to manage. The bandages need to be wrapped tightly to provide enough compression for healing. Compression disperses fluid from the surgical site and allows connective tissue to heal more quickly. Consistent and constant compression is ideal for optimal healing benefits. (more…)
I had SmartLipo™ and a breast lift. My doctor put me in two garments but I would prefer to use just one. Can you recommend a product and help me figure out what size to buy?
Congratulations on your surgery. I’m sure you are well on your way to looking and feeling fabulous!
I would love to help you find exactly the right garment for your needs.
We have several body garments that feature a bra with full body coverage. They are a great option because you only need to wear a single garment. The garments provide both compression, necessary for SmartLipo™ healing, and support, for the breast lift. (more…)
